CAROLINA FOCUSES AT SHENANDOAH SATURDAY; BREWER, JOSETT & SWANSON NOTCH FEATURE WINS
The Carolina USAC Ford Focus Series presented by the Richard Petty Driving Experience returns to Shenandoah (Va.) Speedway Saturday and series point leader Tanner Swanson hopes to repeat his July victory there.
Swanson, of Kingsburg, Calif., scored his third win of the season Saturday night at the Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, N.C. driving Tracy Trotter's machine. He passed Mark Burt with just two laps remaining in the 35-lap race and beat Michael Sboro, Michael Mohelski, Chris Lamb and Scott Hunter to the checkered flag. Burt, who led the first 33 laps, finished seventh.
Robby Josett of Aqua Dulce, Calif. and Bob Brewer of Murra, Utah also posted USAC Ford Focus victories in weekend action. Josett won Saturday night's 20-lap California Dirt feature at Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway, while Brewer won Saturday night's 15-lap Utah Developmental Series race at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Josett passed Scott Oliver on lap two and led the rest of the Bakersfield feature in his RL & Sons Construction/Swann Motorsports Spike to beat series point leader Nic Faas, fast qualifier Walt Johnson, Nick Carlson and Jet Davison.
Brewer passed Jimmy Wysong on lap three and led the final 12 laps of the Utah event to beat Wysong, Caitlin Shaw, Jim Waters and Jeff Kelley. The race was the first in the series for Sprint car veterans Wysong and Waters. Brewer piloted the Turf Equipment & Irrigation/S & H Terminals Stealth.
The California and Utah series are now idle until an October 13 non-points "special event" at Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway in Blythe, Calif.
