SECOND HELPING OF "WEDNESDAY NIGHT THUNDER" THIS WEDNESDAY IN NEW CASTLE
INDIANAPOLIS -- USAC's weekly "Wednesday Night Thunder" Midget tripleheader continues this Wednesday at Mount Lawn Speedway in New Castle, Ind. after a successful opening week of racing.
Three drivers -- Stephanie Mockler (Regional Midgets), Andy Baber II (Indiana Ford Focus Midgets) and Sam Imel (Kenyon Midgets) -- won season-opening 30-lap features. Mockler, of Westfield, Ind. led the final 22 laps of the Regional race -- her second in series competition this season -- to beat Ron Gregory, Richey Jacobs, Tom Hessert III and Scott Thoman.
Baber led all 30 laps of the Ford Focus race in the No. 27 Start-to-Finish Racing Stealth, beating Alison MacLeod, James Robertson, Casey Riggs and Adam Kramer.
Imel led twice, taking the point after Kenny Biro crashed late in the event. From there, he held off Chris Windom, Blake Fitzpatrick, Kyle Hamilton and Jacob Wilson in the No. 35 Kenyon/Yamaha.
The Regional Midget Car Series also contested Sunday at Columbus Motor Speedway in Ohio, where Teddy Beach in the No. 25 Beach Boys Manufacturing Beast/Mopar came away with the victory. Bryan Clauson, Jacobs and Brandon and Nick Wagner rounded out the Top 5. Thanks in part to his sixth-place finish, Thoman became the new series point leader.
This week's visit to the 3/10-mile Mount Lawn facility is the first since 2000, when the then Speedrome Regional Midget Car Series contested there.
