Waters Back in Victory Lane at Salt Lake City
Defending USAC/SLVRA Rocky Mountain Sprint Car Champion Jim Waters returned to victory lane Monday night at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Waters emerged from the race with a one-point lead over Mike Baisch in the new series standings going into a June 12 race at the 3/8-mile paved oval.
Waters was the fifth leader in a most competitive feature event, leading the final 16 laps in his Lake Elsinore Hotel & Casino/Crossroads West/Port O'Call Beast Chevy.
Jeff Bergener and Chuck Maddox traded the lead back and forth for the first 15 laps, then Maddox' engine blew, sending him to the sidelines. Jimmy Wysong led for two laps, then Dave Fitzgerald led two before Waters assumed command.
Baisch ended up second at the checkered flag, ahead of Todd Ellison, Fitzgerald and Tim Barber. Fitzgerald was the fastest qualifier and heats went to Wysong and Jeff Bergener.
