CLAUSON, SWEET, JONES CLAIM "COPPER ON DIRT" POLES
Tucson, AZ.......Bryan Clauson, Brad Sweet and Levi Jones earned pole starting positions in Saturday night's Rosemont Copper "Copper on Dirt" feature events by winning Friday night's dashes in USAC racing action at USA Raceway. Clauson, of Noblesville, Ind., will start from the pole in Saturday's 30-lap USAC Mopar National/Western Midget race, while Sweet, of Grass Valley, Calif., is on the pole for the 40-lap USAC Amsoil National/CRA Sprint race. Jones, of Olney, Ill., starts from the pole in Saturday's 50-lap USAC Silver Crown feature at the 3/8-mile dirt oval.
A total of 90 race cars competed in Friday's preliminaries, with Sweet (Midgets), Bud Kaeding (Sprints) and Jones (Silver Crown) posting the fastest qualifying times. Midget heat races were won by Darren Hagen, Henry Clarke, Jerry Coons Jr. and Tanner Swanson, while Sprint heats went to Bud Kaeding, Clauson, Mike Spencer and Robert Ballou.
