Flock takes Western Midget series event on final lap

INDIANAPOLIS - Robby Flock of Murrieta, Calif. clinched his second win of the USAC Western Midget Series season, winning a 30-lap feature event Saturday at Bakersfield Speedway in Bakersfield, Calif.

Flock led the first 24 laps of the event before yielding to points leader Steve Paden on lap 25, then regained the lead on the final lap for victory. Paden finished second and was trailed by Wally Pankratz, Garrett Hansen and Bobby Boone. Paden also extended his points lead to 74 points over second place Bobby East.

Josh Wise of Riverside, Calif. was the event's fast qualifier while Paden and Flock won eight-lap heat races. Flock has only competed in three features on the season but hasn't finished outside the top three in any event!

The next event on the Western Midget Series calendar will be held in conjunction with the USAC National Midget Series as part of a "tripleheader" July 3-4 at Pikes Peak International Raceway in Fountain, Colo. The Weld Racing Silver Crown Series and National and Western Sprint Car Series will also compete in the two-day extravaganza.
