Hendrix eyes Western Sprint lead at Stockton

Defending USAC Western Sprint Car Champion Rick Hendrix will try to regain the lead in the 2003 series standings this Saturday night in the DuWayne Starr Classic at Stockton (Calif.) 99 Speedway.

Hendrix trails Tracy Hines and Tony Stewart in the current standings but did not compete in the last USAC Sprint race at Stockton, a 2000 race won by Davey Hamilton.

Practice at Stockton gets under way at 3 pm and the feature event is a 40-lapper.

Drivers will be aiming at Burney Lamar's 1-lap Stockton track qualifying record of 12.982 seconds when time trials start on the 1/4-mile pavement.
