NYKJÆR'S WINS SECOND CONSECUTIVE S2000 CUP
Michel Nykjær managed to claim a second consecutive FIA European Touring Car Cup at the Austrian Salzburgring today. The Danish driver won the first race and then survived a number of incidents to finish second in the second race behind Oscar Nogues. This was enough to win the Super 2000 Cup and give Denmark victory in the Nations' Cup again and Chevrolet their first international trophy in Touring Car racing.
Young Spaniard Nogues, who had won participation in the FIA Cup after his victory in the SEAT Eurocup, clinched a brilliant success in the second race, while Richard Goransson was classified third after offering the spectators an exciting and fair fight with Nykjær in Race 1.
Competition on the track was so balanced that three different Manufacturers - Chevrolet, SEAT and BMW - were represented on the podium. Italian driver Fabio Fabiani (BMW 320i) and Ralf Martin from Germany (Ford Fiesta) emerged as the winners in the Super Production and Super 1600 class respectively.
