FIFTH PLACE FINISH FOR THOMPSON
An electrifying end of today's first race saw N.Technology Alfa Romeo and James Thompson keep their championship hopes alive with a superb fifth place finish.
Thompson was running eighth when incidents at the front of the field enabled the British driver to make up three places within the last two laps of this season's penultimate race, promoting him to within nine points of Andy Priaulx's championship lead.
Now only one of three racers capable of winning the drivers title along with Andy Priaulx and Yvan Muller, Thompson will start today's second race from fourth place.
James Thompson, car number 15
"I gave it my absolute all! The team have done a fantastic job all year; I had quicker guys behind me but kept my head down and ended up fifth. Although I try not to think of the championship during the weekend, it's great to still be in the running!"
