A1 Team Canada reaches Dubai on the A1 world tour
8th December 2005, A1 Grand Prix of Nations, Dubai, UAE -- Sean McIntosh kicked off the weekend for A1 Team Canada with a visit to another international sporting event being held in Dubai this weekend -- the Class One World Powerboat Championship. Nothing can really epitomise Dubai better than the scene of the home team -- Victory -- racing with the renowned Burj Al Arab seven star hotel in the background. This is also the home A1 Grand Prix race for Sheikh Maktoum -- the founder of the series and media interest is high on the nations' teams given the high level of international company activity in the region.
Team Canada will be looking for points this weekend after a disappointing event in Malaysia. The team hung onto their 11th place in the Championship, but having been as high as third in the feature race in Germany earlier in the season, is looking to take away enough points to overtake Australia, Portugal and Ireland to get back into the top ten of the championship table and to take home more medals and trophies.
Sean McIntosh: "We've come here from Malaysia looking for some good results and I think we're capable of achieving that. The sand is an ever-present factor but it's the same for everyone so I'll just have to deal with it and make the best efforts that we can. I'm looking forward to it. The track's modern -- quite similar in characteristic to Malaysia with some long straights and low speed corners -- and we really had a good car that put us on the pace there and there's no reason why we won't be able to do the same here. We need to come away with two points scoring finishes but my focus at the moment is qualifying and getting on the front two rows."
Round six of the A1 Grand Prix series takes place at Dubai Autodrome, Dubai, UAE, 8th, 9th & 10th December. Action from the weekend can be viewed in Canada live or on demand on www.a1gp.com
