Fellows secures ride for NASCAR Winston Cup event at Sonoma Infineon Raceway in 2003.
SONOMA, Calif. - Veteran road-racer Ron Fellows has signed a contract with Dale Earnhardt Inc. to compete in the Dodge/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Winston Cup event at Infineon Raceway in 2003.
Fellows, the 2002 American Le Mans Series GTS champion and a past winner of the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans, will also perform testing and road-racing coaching duties for DEI in 2003.
Fellows has competed in two Winston Cup events at Infineon Raceway, placing 38th in 2001 and 19th in 2002. The native of Toronto, Canada, led 20 laps of the 2001 Dodge/Save Mart 350. Fellows has two top-10 efforts overall in five career NASCAR Winston Cup starts. Moreover, he has three victories in NASCAR Busch Grand National Series action.
Fellows is the two-time defending ALMS champion at Infineon Raceway in the GTS division piloting a Chevrolet Corvette. He has also started on the pole both years.
"Infineon Raceway is one of the most technical tracks in the world and that's why I enjoy racing on it. It's a challenge," said Fellows, 43. "I've struggled there a bit in a Winston Cup car but I've also led some laps. I think with the DEI equipment under me, I should be pretty competitive. I'm just thrilled to be part of DEI."
The Dodge/Save Mart 350 will take place June 19-22 on the 12-turn, 2-mile road course, one of just two road courses on the 2003 NASCAR Winston Cup schedule.
