Prior to joining AMA, Vanderslice worked as a technician on former World Champion Kenny Roberts' racing team, serving as tuner for AMA 250 Grand Prix Champions Randy Mamola and John Kocinski.
Vanderslice was named Technical Manager in 1991, and was an elected member of the Technical Commission of the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) through 1998.
Vanderslice was named Acting Director of AMA Pro Racing in 1994, and was promoted to the position of AMA Director of Professional Competition in September of 1994.
In accepting his resignation, AMA CEO Patti DiPietro acknowledged Vanderslice's years of service. "We thank Merrill for his many contributions to the growth of the AMA over the years and wish him the best as he embarks on a new stage of his career," said DiPietro.
