Andy Belmont on the Toledo race:
"We were pretty close. It was really up to the
last restart. I had a shot at Frank. We were going at it hard and I got
him out of shape and could have wrecked him, but I don't want to win that
way so I backed off and let him recover. After the race, he came up and
thanked me. I had a great handling car but made the wrong adjustment on the
last pit stop. We wound up tight in the middle of the turns. We had a
great motor in the race car. It was our Charlotte motor and we didn't want
to use it but after losing a motor in happy hour we had no choice. The one
that blew got too hot at DuQuoin and its days were numbered. Jason Jarrett
was good on fresh tires but his car would go off as the tires wore down.
Eventually he lost a cylinder and wasn't able to run with us."
Andy commented on the race weekend at Toledo. "The stands were packed. I agree with ARCA's decision to go racing. If we hadn't, the terrorists would have won by upsetting our total way of life. We can't let the sacrifice of those who were lost to be in vain. We went out of our way to honor America. The America Online car was repainted with a Stars and Stripes paint job. Frank Kimmell took the number 46 off his roof and painted the American Flag. During the on track autograph session prior to the race hundreds of race fans came down to have their picture taken with our race car."
