McGilton Makes Dirt Track Debut at Illinois State Fairgrounds
Springfield, Ill. (August 16, 2007) -- Phillip McGilton has ridden bulls, raced motorcycles, competed in off-road trucks, and driven stock cars; however, Sunday's ARCA RE/MAX event at Illinois State Fairgrounds will mark another first for this versatile daredevil. The Marion, Illinois resident will make his first career start on dirt on the "world's fastest one-mile dirt track" in the Allen Crowe 100 when he and his Brewco Motorsports teammates travel this weekend to Springfield, Ill.
"I'm really excited to get a car out there on a dirt track," stated McGilton. "I love doing new things and this is going to be a first for me. I'm sure it's going to feel crazy at first with all the sliding, but I'm sure we'll adjust quickly and hopefully walk out of there with a good finish."
McGilton won't be the only member of the top-10 in ARCA RE/MAX Series Championship points embarking on a new racing surface. Three additional members of the series front-runners join 5th place McGilton in making their dirt track debuts.
McGilton enters this weekend in 2nd place in the race for ARCA Rookie of the Year behind Michael McDowell. McGilton is in the 5th position in the 2007 ARCA RE/MAX Series Championship points with 3020 points, 110 points behind 4th place Justin Allgaier.
ARCA RE/MAX Series practice runs from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 19, 2007. SIM Factory Pole Qualifying begins that afternoon at 12:00 p.m. ARCA RE/MAX Series Driver Introductions begins at 1:45 p.m. and the green flag drops for the Allen Crowe 100 at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 19th.
