Fourth In Points; McGilton Ready For Another Short Track Battle
WINCHESTER, Indiana (May 3, 2007) - - It's still early in the 2007 ARCA RE/MAX Series (ARS) season but ARCA RE/MAX Series Rookie-of-the-Year candidate Phillip McGilton is playing "Mr. Consistency." The Marion, Illinois native hopes to continue that foray as the ARS heads to Winchester Speedway for Sunday' s Winchester ARCA 200.
Sitting fourth in points, McGilton is ready to make a dent in the championship standings and most of all grab his first ARS victory. Coming off a career best seventh at Salem Speedway two weeks ago, the leading ARS Rookie-of-the-Year competitor knows that his Brewco Motorsports team will be unloading a competitive No. 47 Montgomery Equipment Ford Fusion with one goal in mind, victory lane.
"I've never raced at Winchester Speedway, but our team has confidence continuing to roll over from Salem which gives us that extra incentive to run well on Sunday," said McGilton. "Shawn (Parker, crew chief) has done a good job preparing this team all season long. We just need to avoid the mess that could snap us from competition and be around for the last 50 laps."
He continued, "A win would be important for this team. They haven't won since last year at Kentucky. We have great cars, powerful motors we just need a little luck. Our short track program is just as strong as our intermediate program; we hope to remind everyone of that this weekend."
Brewco Motorsports along with McGilton announced last week at Kansas Speedway that Montgomery Equipment has joined the Kentucky-based organization to sponsor the No. 47 Ford Fusion for the remainder of the year.
Montgomery Equipment specializes in underground mining equipment repair and rebuilds. They are located in West Virginia and do business all over the United States. Montgomery Equipment also sells new underground mining supplies and deals in used mining equipment.
"We didn't have quite the showing that we were hoping for last Friday night at Kansas for our new sponsor," recalled McGilton. "We ran out of fuel and it set us behind. Unfortunately, Kansas is such a short race that we weren't able to recover. Our team is a lot better than our 18th place effort showed last week and we plan to back that statement with a contending run at Winchester. We're excited and proud to have our new sponsor onboard; we just want to deliver the finishes they deserve."
Luckily for McGilton he'll have some extra race fever over the rest of his competitors as he'll test at Toledo Speedway on Thursday to prepare for the fourth short track race of the season, the Hantz Group 200 by Federated Auto Care set in two weeks on May 20, which will be aired live on SPEED. "Any time we have an opportunity to test, we're loading up the car and team and heading to the track," McGilton added. "A lot of these tracks I've never seen before. By taking the time and effort to test puts me a little better in sync with the rest of my competitors. I can tell you already the testing is paying off."
