- Final Qualifying: Lynx Racing in the KOOL/Toyota Atlantic Support Race at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach - April 17 - 18
In final qualifying for the KOOL/Toyota Atlantic support race at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach held at noon on Saturday, April 17, Buddy Rice qualified his #19 Lynx Racing Swift 008.a in 5th place with a time of 1:12.371 sec. "The main barrier to moving up is still getting a clean lap, and getting enough green flag time to get a rhythm going," said Rice. "This will be the first rolling start on a road course that the Atlantics have done, and getting through the first turn and the first lap is going to set the tone of the race." Teammate Mike Conte drove his #17 Lynx Racing/White-Black Design Swift 008.a to 14th place on the grid with a time of 1:13.846 sec. ""The car still has a few bad habits, but then who among us doesn't," said Conte. "We're getting it tamed, and I'm starting to feel pretty comfortable out there. The level of competition is extremely high, and I'm working my way into it a step at a time." The pole was claimed by Kenny Wilden with a lap record of 1:11.805 seconds. The 37-lap, or 1-hour (whichever comes first), race is scheduled to take the green flag at 4:00 p.m. Saturday.
