GIDLEY CAPTURES MONTREAL PIT STOP COMPETITION IN ATLANTIC RECORD TIME

MONTREAL, Que. (June 11) - - Lynx Racing's Memo Gidley, of San Rafael, Calif., captured the Player's Montreal Pit Stop competition Wednesday with a record-setting Atlantic pit stop time of 9.59-seconds. Gidley, who advanced into the semi-finals round through a nine-car field with a time of 9.36-seconds, defeated Ted Sahley, of Cleveland, Ohio. Sahley earned a spot in the final round following a 10.51-second semi-final effort, but he finished short of Gidley with a 10.53-second title match time. Other semi-finalists included Cam Binder of Calgary, Alta., and Gidley's Lynx Racing teammate, Alex Barron, of Vista Calif., with times of 11.78 and 10.61 seconds, respectively. "Today showcased how good the Lynx Racing team is," said Gidley. "As a driver, I was just running burn-outs, and the crew did all the work. It's a team effort which is what racing is truly about, but the Lynx Racing team is so professional in how it does things that it makes my job so much easier in this type of competition." The competition was a simple elimination contest with the four best times advancing into the semi-finals following two qualifying rounds. The actual pit stop required a two-tire front-wheel change following a standing start. The front wheel lug nuts had to be tightened to a minimum wheel torque of 100 ft.-lbs. prior to and after each run. Wheel retaining clips were not required, but wheel drive pegs could not be removed. Timing was measured the instant the car entered the pit and stopped when the car departed the pit. Other drivers who entered the competition included Stephane Roy, of Saint-Sauveur, Que.; Bertrand Godin, of St. Hyacinthe, Que.; Anthony Lazzaro, of Acworth, Ga.; Joao Barbosa, of Portugal; and Alexandre Tagliani, of Lachenaie, Que.
