HOWIE LIEBENGOOD TELLS KIDS HOW TO AVOID RISKS IN AUTO RACING AND IN LIFE
KOOL/TOYOTA Atlantic Championship rookie, Howie Liebengood, is a race driver with a message for kids. With sponsorship from the Washington, D.C.-based National Campaign to Stop Violence, Liebengood visits schools to tell kids that playing by the rules is the best way to live your life. The program is called Racing to Live By The Rules. "Racing To Live By The Rules is a youth motivation program where we talk about the importance of obeying laws and choosing lawful and healthy lifestyles," said Liebengood. "I talk about how we can eliminate risks in racing and in life." The program shows kids the analogy between the risks in auto racing and the risks in life. Liebengood tells kids how dedication and skill are crucial to the sport of racing, as well as to achieving a goal. He tells kids that life as a race car driver is a lot like life as a fifth or sixth grade student. Liebengood uses the colored flags of racing to demonstrate life. "A green flag means go in racing," said Liebengood. "A green flag in life is setting a goal." Liebengood has been making presentations to fifth through eighth grade students in the Washington, D.C., area since the beginning of the year. He also will speak at schools as the KOOL/TOYOTA Atlantic Championship travels across the country. Liebengood is making his first start this weekend in the series' C2 division
