Transnet Racing returns to Atlantic Championship in 2006

Atlanta, Georgia (September 13, 2005) - Transnet Racing, the Atlanta based auto racing team that participated in Atlantic competition in 2002, 2003 and 2004, announced today that team owner Alex García will bring his race team back to the Atlantic Championship in 2006. Transnet Racing last raced in the Atlantic Championship in 2004 with García and Jonathan Bomarito driving the team's Atlantic machines.

"Returning to the Atlantic Championship after the substantial improvements to the Series announced by Champ Car a few weeks ago is a good step for Transnet", said García. "We have already ordered two new cars for next season, and in the next couple of months will be announcing the names of our two drivers."

García also mentioned that, "Transnet recently moved into its new race shop, in a brand new purpose built facility located in Morrow, Georgia, just south of the Atlanta Airport", and indicated that "in looking forward to the start of the new season, we recently hired Allen Berg as Team Manager".

According to Atlantic officials, North America's top open-wheel development series will feature a new 016.a Swift chassis powered by a 2.3 liter, 300- horsepower Cosworth engine capable of producing speeds up to 175 mph. Pi Research will provide all of the electronics, wiring and sensors on the new car.

Recently, the Atlantic officials also announced that starting with the 2006 season, the Atlantic Champion will earn a $2 million bonus under the Atlantic Incentive Program to be used by the Champion in assisting to secure a Champ Car World Series ride.

"We think this is an extraordinary announcement, because it will allow drivers to take the next step in their careers," added Garcia. "We are already in talks with drivers interested in driving for Transnet in 2006. The Series' package is very attractive and Transnet will provide the support that drivers need to succeed at this level while preparing to make the transition to the Champ Car World Series. We pride ourselves in the development of our drivers beyond the cockpit, including all aspects of being a professional racecar driver".

Transnet Racing was founded by Venezuelan driver Alex Garcia in 2002 with the goal of participating at the top of U.S open wheel racing and provide a platform for young and skilled drivers looking to compete on an international stage.
