EU3000: Misano: Draco race notes

Resounding victory for Alessandro Bonetti!

A fantastic race, a well deserved success: Draco driver Alessandro Bonetti not only took his first victory at the Lola steering-wheel, but also he demonstrated to have acquired experience and maturity, controlling the race and keeping experienced opponents at bay.

Italian driver made a scorching start from the third row gaining three positions: at the first corner he was in second place. In the first 14 laps Bonetti shadowed Busnelli and controlled Siedler and Ippoliti, who followed him: when Busnelli made a mistake, Bonetti took the lead and held off the attacks till the end of the race.

Timo Lienemann had a unlucky race: he was always very fast in the qualifying and in the warm-up, but at the race start he switched the engine off, so, he was forced to start from the pit-lane. Nonetheless, German driver gained ground making up some places. When he was sixth, he had to come into the pits to change a cut tyre. Then he rejoined the track and finished ninth.

Mrs Nadia Morini - Draco Team Manager: "I'm sorry for Timo Lienemann, because he was very fast: in qualifying he made a fantastic lap, he's a young driver, this is his first year with the 3000, but during this week- end he was very competitive and on a par with experienced drivers. If he had made a good start, he would have been able to take good results. Bonetti impressed me, he made an incredible start, he set the pace lap after lap...a fantastic race. I thank my drivers and all my Team, which is always up to the task".

Alessandro Bonetti - Draco driver: "It has been a hard race...I made a great start and moved up to second place. I put Busnelli under pressure and I held off the Siedler attack. In the last laps I took the lead, keeping my advantage till the end. I'm very happy, now I have the second place in the driver standings, with 10 points I come back "into the game". I have to continue like this."

Timo Lienemann - Draco driver: "Ninth place, after a difficult race. It' s a pity, because I was very fast on this track. In qualifying I set the best second lap, only 6 thousandth of a second behind the poleman, in the morning warm-up I was the fastest...I had a problem at the start, so, I started from the pit-lane. I pushed hard immediately and I moved up to 6th but then I had to make a pit-stop because of a cut tyre and I lost my advantage. I'm disappointed."
