Carroll clinches Castle Combe pole
Adam Carroll will line-up on pole position for round 12 of the Avon Tyres British Formula Three Championship tomorrow afternoon, after beating the Lola-Dome of Danny Watts in second qualifying at Castle Combe this afternoon.
Carroll posted a time of 58.965s to stop Watts taking his second pole position of the day. Alvaro Parente took third place on the grid, just ahead of Ernesto Viso.
"I knew what I had to do in the first session, but I was unable to string it all together," said Carroll. "It is coming down to things as small as a tiny slide here or there. It is that close this weekend," he added.
James Rossiter managed to better his earlier times, ending the session in fifth place. A very fast first sector of the lap was managed by the Fortec driver, but he was unable to pick up the speed over the second half of the lap. Clivio Piccione took sixth place.
In the Scholarship Class, Ryan Lewis managed to post a time quick enough to take pole position once again, before hitting the tyres at the Esses and damaging his suspension.
"I'm pleased to still have taken pole, but I really wanted to be ahead of some of the Championship Class cars today," said Lewis. "It means that I'll have to try and make my way through some of them tomorrow," he added.
