Young Californian Paul Edwards continued his front-running form in the Green Flag British Formula 3 Championship in qualifying for the series' third round at Donington Park. The 22-year-old claimed sixth on the grid for tomorrow's first race and looked set to nab third slot for the second counter until a slow puncture dropped him to 15th in the session's dying laps.
Coming off a pole position and podium finish at Snetterton a fortnight ago, Edwards was comfortably among the fastest in midweek testing at the sweeping Derbyshire circuit, outpacing his more experienced Alan Docking Racing teammate Andy Priaulx, as well as fellow Americans Alex Gurney and Jeffrey Jones.
Commenting on today's qualifying, Edwards said, "For the second session, we decided to stick with our first session tyres on the drying track, so we have a set of new tyres for tomorrow's first race, which is forecast to be dry. That should help me make the most of my sixth position. It's supposed to rain for the second race, but the team has a really good wet set-up so we hope to score points in that one as well."
Going into tomorrow's races, Edwards lies eighth in the British F3 standings with 22 points in his ADR-run Dallara-Mugen, sponsored by Doug Mockett and Company, a US distributor of quality architectural hardware and fittings.
