JRM Group AIS summary

JRM Group makes its presence felt at Autosport Show

Anyone who visited this year's Autosport International, which took place at Birmingham's NEC between 13th & 16th January, could not fail to notice JRM Group's presence at the show. With a high-profile stand in the main hall, right next to the Autosport Stage -- the exhibition's focal point -- and four cars performing in the Live Action Arena, the company certainly made its mark on the event.

The JRM Group showcased three of its motorsport divisions: Sumo Power GT, the team which races two Nissan GT-Rs in the FIA GT1 World Championship, Sumo Power, the company's retail arm for Japanese performance parts and tuning and JRM (JR Motorsports), which is responsible for the development and preparation of rally and track-day cars.

On the stand, Sumo Power GT Nissan no. 22 was proudly displayed alongside the coveted Tourist Trophy, the oldest perpetual award in motorsport, which it won last May at Silverstone with Warren Hughes and Jamie Campbell-Walter behind the wheel. Both drivers appeared on the stand to sign autographs, in-between performances in the Live Action Arena.

During the show's trade days on Thursday and Friday, the Nissan was accompanied by a brand new Group N Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X; the type that was driven by Gwyndaf Evans to secure the British Rally Championship Teams' title for JRM last year.

Then, as the emphasis of the show changed for the two public days on Saturday and Sunday, the rally Evo X was replaced by a track-day Evo X. Also displayed on the stand was a range of performance products offered by Sumo Power, together with a Honda S2000 which represented the J's Racing brand - a series of tuning components available from Sumo Power - specifically for Hondas.

As well as enjoying a high-profile presence in the exhibition halls, the JRM Group was also well represented in the Live Action Arena. The first of the company's vehicles to appear during the 12, one-hour performances, was Sumo Power's new Nissan S15 Drift car, with driver Brett Castle providing a spectacular display of sideways action.

This was followed into the arena by a 400bhp version of JRM's Mitsubishi track-day car. Piloted by well-known stunt driver Terry Grant, the Evo X performed a series of breath-taking manoeuvres in front of the 5000-plus spectators who attended each show.

It was then the turn of Gwyndaf Evans to represent JRM. As well as being interviewed by the commentator, he gave the crowds a taste of what JRM's rally cars can do.

Then, as a climax to each of the shows, Sumo Power GT's number 23 Nissan GT-R blasted into the hall; driven by Michael Krumm and Peter Dumbreck on Thursday and Friday and Warren Hughes and Jamie Campbell-Walter on Saturday and Sunday. With its V8-engine echoing around the hall, the Nissan proceeded to perform a series of laps before stopping in front of the audience for the team to carry out an authentic race pit-stop.

After changing the wheels, tyres and the driver, the car completed a few more laps of the arena before disappearing back to the holding area. In each of the 12 shows, the team were delighted with the reaction of the audience, who had witnessed the first ever appearance of a GT1 car in the Live Action Arena.

"We are extremely pleased with the way the show went for us", said JRM Executive Director James Rumsey. "Our stand was well attended and our cars attracted a great deal of attention. We took a great deal of enquiries and even sold a car whilst we were at the event. We now look forward to a busy season ahead."
