DAVIS DREAMS STAY ALIVE
The team of Stefan Davis and Pat Cooper won maximum points on Round 5 Rally Yorkshire despite a fraught day. The crew suffered a terrible first stage when the gear lever snapped off after only two miles leaving a short stub on which to change down the gears. The crew then suffered an unlucky rear puncture with just 4 miles into the 9 mile stage but and things were looking bad for the championship losing 1m30s to main competitor Darren Gass.
The team forged on ahead which a socket bar taped in to replace the broken lever and started the comeback. The crew were pushing hard and maybe too hard as spectators reported the Puma arriving backwards into one corner hanging in the trees then back on the road flat out. Some real committed driving saw the crew come back into contention when Gass suffered problems on Stage 6 and Davis regained the lead of the R3 Super 1600 class.
The crew went on to wow the spectators and despite being seriously down on power due to electrical gremlins and braking a damper on the penultimate stage went on to take maximum points in Super 1600.
Stefan is now right back on top of the leaderboard and looking for a result on the biggest challenge of the season World Rally Championship Round Wales Rally GB of which he has never competed in but he is determined for his rivals not to benefit from their upper hand experience. Wales Rally GB will be a fantastic spectacle and will take place on the 29th of November through to the 2nd December.
STEFAN DAVIS: "It's fantastic that even though we have had the toughest season ever, we have dug deep and got back in the lead of the British Rally Championship Super 1600 Class. It is only my first year in the BRC and to be leading and looking to win Super 1600 is something none of us could have anticipated. We just need to find some backers now for the big one and keep this dream alive."
