BTCC: Brands Hatch testing

NEWS FROM THE AUTO TRADER RAC TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP Official Testing: Brands Hatch, 20/6/96

Volvo driver Kelvin Burt made his return to official testing for the Auto Trader RAC Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch today. Injured in an Oulton Park race accident on May 27, Burt was forced by doctors to keep out of the cockpit for three weeks, and missed last weekend's Snetterton rounds of the championship.

Burt, from Tamworth, Staffs, recorded 16th quickest time today, missing the last hour of the session to conserve energy. Quickest on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit, and half a second inside the qualifying record, was David Leslie -- the first time a Honda Accord has topped the timesheets at any test so far this season. Leslie edged out last-round winner Jo Winkelhock and his BMW by a mere two-thousandths of a second.
