Series set for dramatic finale after Brands Hatch race 2

The 2013 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship is set to go down to the final race of the year following two incidents packed races at a rain soaked Brands Hatch.

Things had looked like they were going to plan for Pirtek Racing’s Andrew Jordan after race 1 where he kept it sensible to take 5th on the road. However disaster struck for Jordan in race 2 when he was involved in a collision with eBay Motors driver Rob Collard and fellow championship rival Matt Neal in his Honda Yuasa Racing Civic.

In the incident Jordan broke his rear suspension and limped round to the pits spinning along the way as he non-scored for the first time in 2013 while Neal also had to pit for repairs and retired late on in the race as his Honda Civic went up in flames. While this was all going on Jason Plato went unchallenged to take his second race of the day to get himself right back in the Championship hunt as he was followed home by his MG KX Momentum Racing team mate Sam Tordoff as he took his second podium finish of the day.

2009 BTCC champion Colin Turkington is no longer in championship contention following a first corner spin in race 1 where he was collected by his helpless team mate Nick Foster in the third eBay Motors BMW 125i M sport.

Current BTCC champion Gordon Shedden in the second Honda Yuasa Racing Civic also remains in the hunt to claim his second BTCC crown after taking 2nd in race 1 although he had to survive a major scare on the opening lap of race 2 when he spun heading down Paddock Hill bend somehow getting missed by the remainder of the field.

Shedden recovered from his spin to take a crucial 7th as this was the number then pulled out in the reverse grid meaning he will start race 3 from pole. This now means that heading in to the BTCC finale Jordan now leads the standings by 15 points from Plato and 20 from Shedden although he will now start race 3 from penultimate last on the grid.

For race 3 the maths are simple for Jordan, finish inside the top 8 and the championship will be his for the first time. However the day has already proved that anything can happen in the BTCC and it normally does!
