Tickets On Sale for Second BSLA Quilt Raffle; Quilt Made In Honor Of Tony Roper
DAVIDSON, North Carolina – July 27, 2001 - Tickets are now on sale for The Busch Series Ladies Association (BSLA) second quilt raffle of the 2001 season. The quilt, made in honor of Tony Roper, will be given away at the inaugural NASCAR Busch Series race at Kansas Speedway on Saturday, September 29. Roper's friend and fellow NASCAR competitor, Tony Raines, will pick the winning ticket during the pre-race ceremonies. The homemade quilt design is similar to the one raffled and awarded at New Hampshire International Speedway earlier this year, with red, white and blue patchwork, adorned with the signatures of 35 drivers competing in the NASCAR Busch Series. Bea Wendell of Rumney, New Hampshire, made both quilts for the Association. Tickets are on sale now and are priced at $5.00 each. Race fans can log on to www.buschladies.com to purchase their raffle tickets by credit card, or send a check payable to the Busch Series Ladies Association, P.O. Box 124, Davidson, North Carolina, 28036. All will receive a raffle ticket receipt in order to claim their prize. The ticket purchase deadline is Monday, September 24. Proceeds for the quilt will go to the Tony Roper Scholarship Fund in addition to supporting the many efforts of the BSLA.
"The BSLA has been a source of tremendous support for me and the Roper family," commented Roper's wife, Michele. "I'm not sure people realize the many ways they help the NASCAR family; it means so much to me that the organization has found such a unique and special way to honor Tony."
The BSLA, founded in 1996, works to promote the sport of stock car racing through its programs of assistance and support for all Busch Series families. This effort includes raising funds to provide financial help for all race participants suffering injury or tragedy.
