56-year-old Grandmother dragster wins at Big River.
BONNE TERRE, Mo. -- (April 12, 2003) Fifty-six-year-old grandmother Gladys Edwards of Bonne Terre returned to her championship form Saturday night at Big River Sand Drags by winning top eliminator in the Vehicle ET class. Edwards, who is a two-time overall track champion at Big River, had finished second in the class, but defeated first place winner Carla Glatczak of Potosi in the top eliminator race.
Steve Barton of Bonne Terre was the top eliminator and first place winner in the new Competition Eliminator class. Tim Dee of Bismarck was second. In Stock Buggy, Kevin "Grape Ape" Sellers of Arnold was first with Gary Hollinsworth of Mineral Point taking second and then winning the top eliminator race.
In Off Road Modified, Todd Dee of Leadwood was the first place winner and top eliminator with Randy Hayes taking second place.
In Super Pro ATV, Doug Brown of Bloomsdale was the top eliminator. He defeated first place winner Dillon Huff of Park Hills in the top eliminator race.
In Pro ATV, Rick Finney of St. Louis won both top eliminator and first place for the second consecutive week while Archie Camden of Bonne Terre finished in second place.
In ATV-1, Nathan Yates of Blackwell was first, but it was youngster Tyler LaPlant of Bonne Terre winning the top eliminator race after qualifying for the event by finishing second.
In Junior ATV, Garth Farris of Potosi matched his efforts of the week before by once again finishing first and winning the top eliminator race. Nick Butler of Park Hills finished in second place.
Racing action at Big River Sand Drags continues this Saturday night. Gates open at 3 p.m., time trials at 4 and racing at 7.
