Norwalk Charlie Hunt Racing Notes

NORWALK, OH.-- They might not have won the race, but the Pro Stock Fords of the Universal Brake Parts-sponsored, Charlie Hunt Racing let everyone know they had been there. Team driver Floyd Cheek outlasted teammate Tommy Lee to finish as semi-finalist at the IHRA Mopar Parts World Nationals. Lee, who fell victim to a Cheek holeshot, finished as a quarter-finalist.

"We are out here to have fun," explained team owner Hunt, who resides in Kingsport, Tn. "But, we are also out here to do our best. I have two drivers that I am very proud of. We are just taking this thing race by race, and hopefully at the final race, we'll be ahead in the points standings."

Lee was the quicker of the two in qualifying as he briefly paced the field with a 6.727/206.39, which ended up as the second quickest of the final session.

Cheek performed respectable as he hammered out a 6.786/204.51, good enough for the 10th spot.

Both drivers were impressive in first round wins. Lee didn't have to labor hard to take out fellow Ford racer Carl Baker, while Cheek took care of GM racer Kenny Williams.

The two drivers met in the quarter-finals as the Soddy Daisy, Tn.,-based, Cheek took out the Kingsport-based, Lee on a holeshot in the quarter-finals.

However, Cheek met the same fate in the semi-finals against Jeremy Bevins.

The Universal Brake Parts sponsored team plans to continue their championship conquest at the IHRA PARTS PRO North American Nationals in Epping, NH., during the weekend of September 10-12. The duo of Floyd Cheek, and Tom Lee along with the other pro stock contestants will afforded four qualifying attempts during the course of the event and the quickest sixteen entries will compete in final eliminations on Sunday. The event will be televised on ESPN2 with dates TBA in Drag Review.
