NORWALK, OH-- Rains dampened Norwalk Raceway Park, effectively washing out all of the professional qualifying except for Pro Modified. The class was halfway complete when an untimely rainstorm ended the day's activities. The session was completed on Friday morning.
Pro Modified
Wally Stroupe - Stroupe ran his first session on Thursday and with rainstorms threatening, produced a lap good enough to secure a place in the field early. He posted a 6.526/215.68.
Johnny Rocca/Troy Critchley - After doing burnouts in downtown Norwalk and Critchley as promos for the Mopar Parts World Nationals, the team gathered enough traction to jet down the Norwalk Raceway Park racing surface for a 6.568/214.52.
Mike Castellana - Castellana has a penchant for starting slow in qualifying and gaining momentum as the event goes. Such was the case as he broke just off of the starting line and was forced to repair his mount before the next session.
Dale Brinsfield - Brinsfield continues his bid to be a pace-setter and let his intentions be known in the first session with a 6.421/217.67, good enough for the second spot in early qualifying.
Shannon Jenkins - The "Iceman" Jenkins fired a tremndous shot during the first session and claimed the third spot after losing out on a tiebreaker with Dale Brinsfield. He posted a 6.421/216.45, settling into the third spot due to slower mile per hour.
Ed Hoover- Hoover had problems in the early going with the Trussell Brothers Crvette and wisely lifted when the car drifted out of the groove. He posted a 9.507/101.22.
Tommy Mauney - Mauney was relentless in his pursuit of the top qualifying spot. He stormed to the quickest run of the rain-delayed session with a 6.374.220.98 to claim the pole position after one session.
Tommy Gray, Jr. - Gray brought his Undertaker Corvette to the line with every anticipation of making an early impact. His effort were respectable as he posted a 6.468/217.14 to get into the program.
