PETERSBURG, VA. Dave Hill and the Nitro Fever Racing Pro Fuel Dragster team certainly have a reason to celebrate after competing at the IHRA Nitro Jam World Finals. After running a career-best 5.45 in Round 1 and a trip to the final round, Hill is happy with the team's season finale performance.
"It was a good weekend for us, we had some high spots and some low spots, but overall it was a great weekend. Unfortunately we had a bad battery for the first pass, the test pass they gave the Pro Fuel cars, so we didn't get a chance to get a feel of the track for first round. We had Michael Manners first round and luckily he smoked the tires and I ran my career-best pass, the 5.45. I was really excited to not only take out the points leader, but to also run that number," beamed the Valparaiso, Indiana-based driver.
After a challenging season, Dave was relieved to do so well. "We struggled all season to make power, and now all the work we've done has paid off. We had some problems early in the season with faulty rods, and that really cost us a lot of money and time, having to miss races to fix that," said Hill.
In the final round, Dave had to race Robin Samsel, who has been helping the team throughout the season. "It was cool to race Robin and Tony; they've been helping us with the motor and we've been buying parts from them. Unfortunately our car didn't have quite enough power and Robin got the win, explained Dave.
Dave and the team look forward to continuing their newfound success into the 2011 season. "We plan on again racing in the IHRA Nitro Jam Pro Fuel Dragster class next year. The atmosphere at the IHRA races is better than some of the other organizations and they really seem to appreciate us being here. We've enjoyed this season and anticipate another great season in 2011," added Hill.
