Stanton: Field set for Quick Eight

STANTON, Mi. - Kenny Rucker, the winner of the LIZZARD RACING ENGINES Quick Eight in Dinwiddie, Va., became the second winner this season to score a pole position. Rucker, 46, of Pond Gap, WV., proudly bore the banner for the nitrous contingent as he claimed the top spot with a 6.623, 209.85.
The Ford fans were duly represented as Harry Rockwell's Conneaut, Ohio-based Ford Probe landed in the second spot. The supercharged entry stormed to a 6.720, 208.94.
Another veteran Ford journeyman landed in the third spot. Jim Detrick, of Garden City, Michigan, gave the fans a nitrous version of the Probe as he nailed down a 6.773, 205.07.
Rounding out the top half of the field was past Quick Eight winner Scot Johnson. The Michigan native, who hails from Flint, put his Pontiac into the fourth spot with a 6.777, 209.39.
The balance of the program was comprised of Doug Mills (6.838, 205.47), Al Matarazzo (6.890, 204.11), Carl Rossler (6.900, 203.12), and Tim Decoff (6.906, 202.61).
The first round of eliminations are slated for 7 PM, this evening.
