Wally Stroupe Returns To IHRA Snap-On Tools Series At World Nationals
NORWALK, OH-- Wally Stroupe subscribes to the theory that its better to be late, than never. The veteran, Trim Parts-sponsored driver from Kings Moutain, North Carolina was slated to return to IHRA competition in early July. But, delays in rebuilding his 1963 Corvette combined with tender hands prevented his return for three races longer than anticipated.
Stroupe was seriously injured at the season-opening IHRA Winter Nationals in Bradenton, Florida. He received second and third degree burns on his hands as his entry suffered a massive intake explosion and fire. He was airlifted to the Tampa Burn Center.
Stroupes return to IHRA competition at the World Nationals has not produced stunning result as of the end of the first day of qualifying. His first attempt was aborted, leaving him with one on Friday and two on Saturday. Final eliminations are slated for Sunday.
