Damon's fantastic performance

Damon Hill produced his and the Benson and Hedges Jordan team's best qualifying performance of the 1998 season in Belgium today when he pipped Michael Schumacher to take third place on the gird. Damon's fantastic performance, his best since 3rd place in Hungary 1997, also gives Mugen-Honda its equal best ever qualifying (equal to Panis in Argentina 1997).

Damon's result also gave a great show for the 70 Jordan Grand Prix employees who have travelled out on a team trip from the Silverstone factory to attend the Belgian Grand Prix.

DAMON HILL. "This is absolutely brilliant! I am very happy. Much of this result is due to the exceptionally hard work of everyone at B & H Jordan and at Mugen-Honda because to get from where we were at the start of the season to where we are now is a tremendous effort. We are the leading Goodyear runner today, which is also a fantastic achievement. I must say I think I am driving very well and I am really enjoying myself. I want to celebrate this moment before looking forward to what we can achieve tomorrow. I have worked very well with my race engineer (Dino Toso) and we are not going to give up at just getting a good qualifying result."

RALF SCHUMACHER "This was a great result for the team, but my performance was not as good as I would have liked. I did not feel as comfortable with the car as I have done in recent races and struggled a little with understeer. Hopefully we will have sorted this out for tomorrow."

EDDIE JORDAN "It was fantastic to see Damon take third place. It shows just how far we have come and I am very proud of Damon and the team's performance."
