The West McLaren Mercedes team prepared for the British Grand Prix with a positive day's practice. Mika Hakkinen put in the fastest lap of the day with a 1:26.981 whilst David had a quickest lap of 1:27.155.

MIKA HAKKINEN 'I am pleased with today's practice. The car felt good and I was able to work well with the engineers to develop a good set up for the race on Sunday. Of course qualifying will be interesting, it always is, but I think we are looking pretty strong.'

DAVID COULTHARD 'A good day's practice for me. I worked on setting the car up and apart from a little spin early on there is nothing remarkable to report.'

RON DENNIS 'The team had an uneventful day's session with both drivers, as always, concentrating on race setup.'

NORBERT HAUG 'No problems with the engines and a good job from the team in finding a good base for Sunday's race. I expect it to be an extremely close one.'
