The Finnish formula 1 driver Mika Hakkinen suffered head injuries from a serious crash at the street circuit of Adelaide, Australia in the 1st qualifying session. Hakkinen lost ontrol of his car in the fast corner leading to the long Brabham straight. The car was launched of the kerb into the air and crashed sideways into the concrete wall at a high speed.
Hakkinen was taken to hospital where he is in intensive care. His condition is serious but stable. Doctors weren't giving any predictions concerning his recovery. The next few days will tell how bad the injuries are.
The accident was probably caused by a punctured left rear tyre.
