After the disappointment of finishing out of the points at the German Grand
Prix two weeks ago, the Lucky Strike Reynard BAR Honda team arrived at the
Hungaroring keen to put in another competitive performance. Drivers Jacques
Villeneuve and Ricardo Zonta did a considerable amount of running during
the first day of practise for Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix, but neither
man was completely happy with the set-up of his car. Both felt that
although the overall chassis balance was acceptable, grip levels were not
high enough on the tight, twisty 3.972-km track. Further simulation work
will take place at the team's UK headquarters tonight with a view to
improving the cars' performance tomorrow.
Jacques Villeneuve:
"The track here doesn't seem to suit our car, but we''ve just got to keep
trying hard. Funnily enough, I've never been that quick here in Hungary,
but in the races the car has run pretty well, so hopefully we can do
something this weekend. It's not an easy curcuit, but I quite like it
since there is a nice rhythm between the corners. The track is like Monaco
in that it picks up grip in the course of the weekend as more rubber goes
down."
Ricardo Zonta:
"It has not been a very productive day. In terms of set-up, the car just
wasn't as consistent on new and old tyres as it should have been, with the
result that we had to make bigger changes than normal to balance the
chassis. We are also lacking overall grip. It's not clear which tyre
compound will be the better option here and we didn't get a chance to do a
direct comparison today. Hopefully, we can improve things tomorrow."
