Hungarian GP Saturday Ferrari notes

Hungarian Grand Prix Budapest, Saturday 15th August

Michael Schumacher: third, 1m 17.366s, 10 laps Eddie Irvine: fifth: 1m 18.325s, 12 laps

Jean Todt "Third and fifth places on the grid are more or less what we expected after free practice. We chose hard tyres for Michael and soft for Eddie. It will be a difficult race tomorrow and it will be vital to make a good start. Naturally we would have preferred to have a car on the front row. We did not manage it, but we will try and rectify the situation in the race."

Michael Schumacher "I aborted my first run because I was held up by a driver who did not looks in his mirrors. I could not improve my qualifying time on my last run as we made a change to the set-up which did not work and all the section times were slower. I also made a mistake on the second to last corner, which is why I came back to the pits. We did not expect to challenge for pole position today, so this morning we concentrated on finding a good race set-up. Therefore I am quite satisfied with our work. I can have a good race starting from third position. With the right strategy we have a chance tomorrow and I believe we will make the most of it."

Eddie Irvine "I am actually happy to be fifth rather than fourth as the other side of the track is very dirty. We improved the car since this morning but it is still not perfect. We could make the car better over the bumps but I had to run it stiffer for qualifying and I will run it that way for the race also, as although we can make it comfortable, it is too slow with that set-up. That means it will be a physically tough race for me. It is nice to be back at the right end of the grid again. I hope it will be much hotter tomorrow as my tyres work better in those conditions. It was a shame the cloud cover arrived today. With two McLarens and Michael ahead of me it might be hard to make the podium, but anything could happen."
