Hungarian GP Saturday Jordan notes

Qualifying turned out to be a bit of a struggle as Jordan Grand Prix continued to fine-tune the EJ10 to the twists and turns of the Hungaroring. Heinz-Harald Frentzen did well to claim sixth place on the grid but Jarno Trulli was disappointed with 12th fastest time. 'We're disappointed,' said Eddie Jordan. 'We knew it was going to be difficult, which is why Heinz-Harald did a good job to get onto the third row alongside Barrichello's Ferrari.' Michael Schumacher claimed pole position for Ferrari ahead of the two McLarens.

'I was sweating quite a bit today!' said Frentzen. 'Apart from being very hot, it's a tough track. We continued to fight to find a good balance and deal with understeer in every way that we could. Considering this is the first time we have run the latest 'B' specification on a high-downforce circuit, we are still learning how to get the maximum out of the car. So, all things considered, I'm quite happy that we managed to get the best we could out of the car today.'

Trulli's struggle with the handling continued into qualifying.

'We didn't find the cause of the problem,' said Jarno. 'Having a lot of understeer is not normal for me. We tried everything we knew but it didn't help much. Then we tried a different front wing and the car changed completely - more than you would normally expect. It is unusual to find such a big change, so we've still got some work to do learning about the latest aerodynamics.'

Schumacher dominated qualifying from the start and, even though David Coulthard and Mika Hakkinen gradually improved their times, the McLaren drivers could not close the gap of almost four-tenths of a second.
