The BMW WilliamsF1 Team personnel were always realistic about how hard work the Hungaroring would be for them. However, they have done a lot of work during the first day and know that they can improve the car between now and qualifying. Ralf Schumacher was fourth and Juan Pablo Montoya 13th after the two sessions.

Ralf Schumacher:
"I am quite satisfied with the way our day went as we completed our planned programme. It was a difficult day as the track was so slippery and I went off a couple of times, but in the end we found a proper balance for the car. All in all the situation here is more or less as we expected. I just hope we can close the gap on the top times in qualifying."

Juan Pablo Montoya:
"It was a difficult day, especially finding the right direction for the set-up. We struggled in the morning, but improved in the afternoon. However, we have fallen back a little bit as it has been difficult to get the car working and mine seems to have struggled a lot."

Sam Michael, Chief Operations Engineer
"On both cars we spent today looking at different tyre choices and evaluating new parts we have at this race for the chassis. It is a bit difficult to look at Friday times and decide anything, as usual, and we now have a lot of work to do on the set-up once we have decided which tyre to run. I am pleased to report we had no problems at all with the chassis."

Dr. Mario Theissen, BMW Motorsport Director
"Both drivers did some good work today, with Ralf completing the most of any driver with a total of 41 laps. We had no engine problems at all and the hot temperatures here did not lead to high engine temperatures."

Chassis:
Schumacher: FW23-05
Montoya: FW23-06
Spare (Montoya): FW23-02
