London display for Formula One?

London could be roaring with V10s early this summer when Formula One is reported to be staging a demonstration run on Regent Street. The display is provisionally scheduled for July 6th in the run up to the British Grand Prix on July 11th. "There's a very good chance this is going to happen," said Bernie Ecclestone. "We're working on it."

Ecclestone, who currently holds the promotional rights to the British GP, has made no secret of the fact that he is not impressed with the Silverstone circuit. Asked by the BBC if the race could move to London, Ecclestone replied: "Everything is possible."

BAR boss David Richards, whose team is based in the UK, thinks the demo run is a good way to attract attention to F1. "The demonstration on Regent Street is going to be absolutely awesome - it's a new approach to bringing F1 to the people," he told BBC radio.

"We have an excellent race circuit at Silverstone and I believe that is the right venue for the British Grand Prix. But anything can happen in this business and Monaco has benefitted enormously from having the race on its streets, so who knows?"

The fate of Silverstone beyond this season is uncertain and it's rumoured that Ecclestone may be thinking of a race on London's streets or in one of the parks. However, having the event in London is only speculation -- the demonstration run is more likely Ecclestone trying to prompt the UK government to invest in the future of the British GP.
