New Sauber driver Felipe Massa has sparked a rush of speculation by saying he will maybe spend only one year with the Swiss team. It has long been thought that Ferrari have an interest in the 20 year old Brazilian -- the team already have two Brazilians, driver Rubens Barrichello and tester Luciano Burti but they are both on one year contracts and their future with Ferrari seems uncertain.
Peter Sauber has commented that Massa is a hot property. "Someone has their hand on his shoulder already. If he is too quick, we might lose him." He once said. Massa seems to think that it's unlikely he will stay with Sauber long: "I hope to do maybe half a year... No, I'm joking. But maybe one year." He stated. "Sauber is the best team for me to start my career. It's a really nice team, but also everyone in it is very serious in their work, so it's good to work with them. This year's car is going to be a good one, but not a pole position car."
Sauber's Technical Director Willy Rampf thinks the Brazilian compares favourably to last year's rookie sensation Kimi Raikkonen, who the team signed up despite his lack of experience. "On a quick lap, Felipe is quicker than Kimi," Rampf said. "He is very talented and can go for a quick lap without any problem. We compared the first tests of Felipe and Kimi, and they are very similar. In terms of feedback they are also the same."
