Montoya records second podium

1994 Barber Pro Series race winner Juan Pablo Montoya recorded a second place result at the European Grand Prix in Germany. The former CART and Indy 500 Champion finished second only to three-time world champion Michael Schumacher. Montoya, driving for Williams-BMW on Michelin tires, started from an F1 career best third spot on the grid, following a successful qualifying session on Saturday.

For Montoya, it was only the second race he has finished; both resulting in second-place finishes.

"The car was really competitive today," Montoya said after the race. "Yesterday was good in qualifying, so I got third, and today things turned my way and I had some good luck. The first few laps of the race I took it really steady. The car was very positive, and there was room in it to go quicker when I needed it, and the [Michelin] tires were really good and very consistent all race, so I was very pleased with them."

Former Formula Dodge standout Antonio Pizzonia captured sixth place at the Nurburgring in Formula 3000 action that supported the marquee Grand Prix event.

In CART action, Skip Barber trained Michael Andretti recorded an eighth place finish in the Freightliner/G.I. Joe's 200 at Portland International Raceway...In Dayton Indy Lights action, former Barber Dodge Pro Series racer Townsend Bell turned in a sixth place result on the same track in the Spirit Mountain Casino Challenge.

At Sear's Point Raceway, Winston Cup points leader Jeff Gordon led 86 laps but had to settle for third place and podium placement in the Dodge/Save Mart 350. Gordon was joined in the Skip Barber trained top-10 by Ward Burton (6th), Bobby Labonte (7th) and Jeff Burton (8th).

Finally, Skip Barber trained Dennis Setzer was in rhythm at Memphis Motorsports Park in the Memphis 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race. Setzer took the first-ever win for his new team. Starting fourth, Setzer led twice for 51 laps, taking over the lead for good on lap 166.
