No points for pole, fastest lap, in 2010

F1's Sporting Working Group (SWG) is reported to have rejected moves to award a point for pole position and another for the driver with the fastest race lap.

Reports recently suggested the proposal could be supported by the teams, who sat down for a meeting late last week.

"For sure if you have a couple or points or one point (for pole) that would be great," said Fernando Alonso.

"Same thing for the fastest lap --- it can be a good motivation also to have some kind of points," the Spaniard said recently.

But while the actual distribution of points through to tenth place was slightly tweaked by the SWG, the points-for-pole idea was shelved for now.

Red Bull's Christian Horner said the increase in the gap between first and second places from 5 to 7 points is a good idea.

"It is not because drivers don't want to take the risk, but if the points difference between a win and second is two points it is not the end of the world, whereas if it is a significant number it adds motivation for them to push each other very hard," he is quoted as saying by The Sun.

The report also said forcing drivers to make two pitstops per race instead of one was discussed but not approved.
