The Renault F1 Team president, Patrich Faure, spoke about the French Grand Prix, and the team's ambitions for the second half of the season.

Q: Mr Faure, how would you summarise the 2004 French Grand Prix?

Patrick Faure: We scored our best overall result of the season at our home race, and that is fantastic news. It was a tense race, we were able to push Ferrari all the way and have scored 13 points. Obviously, Jarno's loss of a position in the final metres is frustrating, and has cost us a point, but that's motor racing.

Q: It would have been hard to fight for the win on Sunday?

PF: Yes. We would have loved to give the fans a win, but the Ferraris were too strong. There's nothing to be ashamed about there; indeed, that's what is pushing us to carry on making progress.

Q: How significant is this result in terms of the end of the season?

PF: We have been fighting shoulder to shoulder with BAR since the start of the season, and the race in Magny-Cours has allowed us to reinforce our advantage over them, gaining nine points over them in one go. However, there are eight races left and lots can still happen! We need to maintain our focus, let no opportunity pass and avoid mistakes. Obviously, reliability will also be a key to success. We are determined and optimistic.

Q: What evolutions are planned between now and Sao Paulo?

PF: The R24 underwent some fairly significant changes for Magny-Cours. Engine steps are planned for Germany, in three weeks, and Monza. In terms of the chassis, Enstone is pushing forward, and there will be new parts at Silverstone next weekend.

Q: Finally, is it pleasing that the French Grand Prix took place?

PF: Renault was among those who worked hard behind the scenes to make this race happen. In the end, it delivered on its promises and the crowd was not disappointed. For Renault, it was inconceivable to have an F1 season without a French Grand Prix.
