Silverstone thanks ‘Incredible’ BRDC Marshals at Annual Club Dinner

The annual BRDC Marshals’ Club Dinner, organised by Silverstone Circuits Limited, took place at the Daventry Paramount Hotel on the evening of Saturday 27 January, with a fantastic attendance of over 275 marshals and their guests. Members of the Marshals’ Club travelled from as far as Guernsey and Scotland to be at the ever-popular event, to see trophies awarded for the 2006 Marshal of the Year and The David Allen Trophy for the Trainee Marshall of the Year.

The 2006 Marshal of the Year award went to Anthony Burman (of Towcester) who, upon accepting his award, paid tribute to the team of people he works with, who he referred to as the “A Team.” Donna Vernon (of Oxford) received the Trainee Marshall of the Year award. On collecting her trophy she commented: “It is always special to be thanked for something you do but to be thanked for something you love to do is wonderful – thank you very much.”

One of the highlights of the event is the tombola, which boasts more than 350 items of merchandise and memorabilia donated by Formula 1 and other racing teams, manufacturers, the BRDC and Silverstone Circuits Limited. Delighted guests went home with some fantastic prizes as mementos of the evening, including Formula 1 drivers’ overalls.

Richard Phillips, Managing Director of Silverstone Circuits Limited, commented: “This has been a thoroughly enjoyable evening for everyone. It was a pleasure to see Anthony and Donna receiving their well-deserved awards, but it is important that every marshal in the club is recognised for their incredible and vital work. Without them, race events simply could not take place and this event is a great way of thanking them for all that they do.”

Event organiser and Marshals’ Club Marshal Pam Dearn wished to thank all of those organisations that donated prizes, adding that “their support is an important and valuable contribution to the event’s continued success.”
