Testing wraps up at Jerez

Testing came to a close on Thursday at Jerez and Michael Schumacher was top of the list of the ten drivers on duty. Ferrari's champion clocked a best of 1:15.648, an unofficial lap record.

Williams' Ralf Schumacher was second fastest, some eight tenths down on his brother. Ralf worked on tyres for Brazil as well as set up and practice starts. Williams test driver Marc Gené was seventh on the time sheet and ran a similar programme to Ralf.

McLaren's test week concluded with Alex Wurz third fastest and Pedro de la Rosa ninth, while Anthony Davidson and Enrique Bernoldi wrapped up for BAR. Davidson was fourth quickest, although he suffered an engine failure at the end of the day. Bernoldi had a minor spin in the morning but escaped damage -- both drivers worked on tyres and ran the Suzuka spec Honda engine.

Franck Montagny, fifth, and Heikki Kovalainen, 10th, finished off for Renault and Jarno Trulli did likewise for Toyota. The Italian had an eventful test, including a puncture on Tuesday and a rear suspension failure on Wednesday, but was overall happy with the work done.

"The last day was much better and we put in a lot more mileage, so despite the troubles I now have a good feel for the car and its positive aspects," said Trulli, about his problem-free Thursday.

The next test session at Jerez is scheduled for October 12th - 14th.
