BARCELONA TEST - 19-23 March 2002
Summary: The BMW WilliamsF1 Team completed a five day test In Barcelona on Saturday morning ahead of the forthcoming Grand Prix at Interlagos, as well as providing a final opportunity to test at the Catalunya circuit prior to the Spanish Grand Prix in approximately one month's time.
The test was conducted by Ralf Schumacher, Juan Pablo Montoya and Marc Gene. Extensive mileage was covered in a new FW24 chassis together with an interim car to run tyre, engine and component updates. After some small initial systems problems were rectified with the new car, significant progress was made with Ralf and Marc recording 1,100km in a single day on Friday, before the programme was concluded on Saturday with a wet tyre test.
Sam Michael (Chief Operations Engineer, WilliamsF1):
"This is the end of a long five day test with a lot of work concentrated on endurance runs and tyre testing for the last opportunity prior to the Spanish GP. We also evaluated various suspension settings and brake components. After we bedded the new car in, we managed to record significant useful mileage."
Mario Theissen (BMW Motorsport Director):
"The focus of the test was on tyre and chassis set-up work. We covered a lot of mileage each day and had no problems on the engine side. We did some further development on the BMW P82 engine's set-up as well, especially concentrating on launch control and traction control."
