Hard-fighting Piscopo nails double points finish at Brno
It's been a grueling weekend for Edoardo Piscopo, in the 2nd round of the 2009 Formula Two Championship. The Italian, who recently relocated in the United Kingdom to get a better touch with the Bedford-based series, ran strong in both races, proving himself as a potential frontrunner. Despite bad luck forced him to recover from the back of the field on Race 2, he did it thoroughly, bringing home two points finish and showing an extremely good pace.
"After the great times scored in Practice - told Edoardo - that propelled us to the top of the charts, we struggled a little more in Qualifying, since conditions had changed and the set- up wasn't that perfect anymore"
On the Race 1 grid, Edoardo suffered from a mechanical trouble that forced him to take off from the pits. After taking the track though, he started to fight back, passing other cars one-by-one, managing to notch 7th place and adding two points to his championship toll. On Race 2, a great start put him all the way up to 4th. Showing a top-3 pace, he easily kept the spot until checkered.
"At the start of Race 1 - told Edoardo, a problem with the starter forced me to take off from the pit-lane, when other drivers had already passed. At that point I chose to push as hard as I could and move my way to the top alone. I prove my pace as one of the fastest around, and climbed back to a really hard-fought points spot. On Race 2, the start was decisive. At the first corner, I passed three cars to grab fourth place, and I kept pushing, getting a new motivation in my quest for the 2009 title."
Edoardo is currently sitting in 9th place in standings, just 6 points away from a top-5 spot. The legendary Spa-Francorchamps track will host the next round of the series, starting as early as this weekend...
