CARLO VAN DAM RACKS UP THE MILES IN WORLD SERIES TEST AT VALENCIA

Carlo van Dam once again tested a World Series Formula Renault 3.5 today. After testing one of the World Series cars at Paul Ricard (France) for Red Devil Team Comtec three weeks ago, the reigning ATS Formula 3 champion was in action at the Spanish circuit of Valencia and racked up the miles for Fortec Motorsport. In the nice red and white colored car Van Dam and the team used both the morning and afternoon session to get a good impression of the car. They did succeed in this, despite ongoing understeer problems. In a competitive field the 21-year old driver completed no less than 132 laps and ended the test in fourteenth place.

Van Dam's performance today for the British squad was all about getting to know the World Series better. The Dutchman started the test on the 3.100 metres long circuit on used tyres. On the twisty and bumpy track Van Dam was capable of setting fast lap times immediately, but it was not all going well. He was hampered by understeer problems and locking brakes, causing him to lose a lot of times in the short turns. With a set of fresh tyres Van Dam set his fastest lap time of the day. With a 1:23.1 the S-T-A-R-T driver ended up in the midfield.

CARLO VAN DAM: "We have used our day pretty well. We wanted to use the day to get a better feeling in the car. A fast lap time was not as important. I was able to do a lot of laps before and after the break and was able to improve the car. Unfortunately we were hampered by heavy understeer problems, which we were unable to get rid of. I want to thank Fortec Motorsport and my sponsors for the test. The World Series Formula Renault 3.5 remains a serious option for 2008."
