Tough weekend for Tiago Monteiro in Barcelona
In Montmelo, Barcelona, Tiago Monteiro ran another two scoring races for the World Series by Nissan. Although currently maintaining the second championship position, the Portuguese driver did not have an easy weekend, completing the races in the 10thand 7th positions. On the contrary to what both Team and Driver expected, the grid positions determined the final results.
After landing the 16th grid position for the first race, Monteiro had a hard time recovering positions but managed to finish in 10th: "The fact that we didn't practiced on this track the week before like most teams did, influenced the poor result for the grid, and as a consequence made the race much harder to run. We knew that starting from the 8th gridline was going to be tough. I did my best considering the understeer. I recovered six positions and I couldn't manage any more. The competition was very fierce to finish in the top ten." said Tiago Monteiro, disappointed with the race weekend.
For the second race we decided to modify some of the single seater's specifications, increasing the aerodynamic support on the front wing in order to control the understeer, but the changes proved wrong for Tiago Monteiro: "I was hardly able to drive the car, I couldn't push, and all I could do was to focus on keeping the car on track. Once again it was no easy task ending the race in the 7th position, especially since I started from the 11th grid position and the car was not at it's best." Remarked Monteiro overall pleased with his return from the back.
Although it was a tough round, the Carlin Motorsport maintains a solid second championship position, scoring 5 points at Barcelona and expecting better results for the upcoming races: "For now I will focus on the future races and hope they'll run smother than this one. My sole preoccupation for now is winning more races and then we will see what happens in the championship." Ended by saying Tiago Monteiro .
